SUNDAY 1-1 -0.35 UNITS
Here are todays selections:
5 Units Pittsburgh -7.5 -105
Terrific matchup, a battle of two 10-0 teams!!! It looks like a monster defensive clash, as FSU allows teams to shoot 34% (53.7 ppg) while Pitt holds opponents to 36% shooting (54.5 ppg). The Florida State Seminoles feature an experienced backcourt led by senior 6’-4” Tim Pickett (14 ppg) and 6’-7” junior Anthony Richardson (12 ppg, 5 rpg) up front. The Seminoles are 2-0 SU & 1-0 ATS in away games, but those only road games were at Miami of Florida and Chicago State. FSU was just 2-10 SU in away games (7-5 ATS) last season. The Pitt Panthers (10-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) have been great in the season's early going, but this next round of games steps up the level of play. 6'-2" Carl Krauser (15 ppg) and 6'-3" Julius Page (14 ppg) lead the way for this tough defensive team and Pitt is 8-0 SU & 2-1 ATS at home. Both teams played Chicago State in their last game: FSU won 47-42, while Pitt won 70-49!!!
5 Units Minnesota U -14.5 -103
Duquesne (2-5 SU & 2-4 ATS) hasn't shown much so far with wins over Loyola-Md and Praire View but they did stay with powerhouse Pitt for most of the game in a 59-45 loss. They are riding a 3-game losing streak, though the games have been competitive. The hard-luck Dukes don't get an easy road here as Minnesota is a tough opponent to face. Minnesota is 5-0 SU at home, while Duquesne is 0-2 SU & 2-0 ATS on the road. Duquesne will struggle with Minnesota's 6'-8", 240-lb freshman forward Kris Humphries, who has been a monster with 24 points and 11 rebounds per game. The Gophers beat up on the lesser lights, especially at home, which is bad news for Duquesne!!!
5 Units Arkansas State +2.5 -103
Arkansas State (7-1 SU & 2-1 ATS) is playing great ball with a ton of talent and depth. They get to strut their stuff here against Conference USA, and they've already beaten Ole Miss of the SEC and Southern Miss (78-71) of C-USA. They have a big front line with 6’-8” senior Kim Adams (10 rebounds per game), and great role players with 6-5” junior JJ Montgomery (19 ppg), 6’-4” junior Dewarick Spencer (20 ppg) and 6’-1” senior Tevoris Thompson (15 ppg). TCU (3-5 SU, 1-5 ATS) is slumping and young, led by sophomore Chudi Chinweze and 6'-2" Corey Santee (13 ppg). Arkansas State is similar to Tulsa, quick and deep, and TCU lost on this same court to Tulsa, 74-62 as a home favorite!!!
5 Units San Diego State +15.5 -103
Arizona won 89-81 over San Diego State last year as a 17-point favorite. This SDSU team is decent, with a strong frontcourt of 6’-8” senior Aerick Sanders (13 ppg, 11 rpg) and 6’-9” junior Chris Walton, and backcourt depth with 6’-0” junior Wesley Stokes and guard Brandon Heath (19 ppg). Heath is a decent three-point threat (38%) and this team beat Ohio State 83-61 and covered in a loss at Texas Tech, 78-68. A 78-77 loss to Florida is the lone blemish on the Arizona (5-1 SU & 2-4 ATS; H: 3-1 SU & 1-3 ATS) Wildcats record. And they have managed a couple of solid wins over Marquette and Texas. There is no one left on the Cats' schedule prior to the start of Pac-10 that should be able to challenge them. Sophomore forward Hassan Adams was named Pac-10 Player of the Week following his 30-point effort against Texas. Also, 6'-9", 220-pound Ivan Radenovic of Serbia, a top-notch import, will play his first game here. Look for a high scoring game and SDSU has the offense and depth to hang in there, just like last year!!!
